VCU Connect
VCU CONNECT gives community members in Richmond, VA the chance to share video footage from privately-owned cameras with the Virginia Commonwealth University Police Department.
Sharing camera feeds enhances emergency preparedness by enabling police, fire, and other public safety professionals to better assess, and rapidly respond to, crimes and emergencies. Footage enables investigators to easily gather evidence after a crime is reported.
LEVEL 1: Register Your Cameras
The VCU Police Department values partnerships and collaborations. You can register your security cameras through VCU Connect today to help VCUPD identify cameras in the area in case of emergencies or active criminal incidents. A VCU Police Department detective will contact you via email if they need your assistance with solving a crime near you.
Camera registration takes less than one minute via our secure online portal. Registering your cameras does not allow VCU Police to access your live video stream; it only enables investigators to know a camera is present at your location and easily request video evidence should an incident occur.
LEVEL 2: Integrate Your Cameras
Integrating your camera systems takes one step further by giving VCU Police direct access to your camera feed in case of a nearby emergency. This is an additional step beyond camera registration and requires the camera owner’s authorization.
To share live video feeds from your cameras, you will need to purchase a small fusesCORE device that you plug into your camera system.
Please complete Level 1 (Camera Registry) before proceeding to Level 2 (Camera Integration). If you have previously registered your security cameras, please go directly to Step 2 to purchase CORE devices.
